SPRINGFIELD State Rep. Amy Elik, R-Fosterburg, was officially sworn into office Wednesday as the new state representative for the 111th Legislative District.
Elik was sworn in during a ceremony of the 102nd Illinois General Assembly held at BOS Center in Springfield. She thanked the residents of Madison and Jersey counties for electing her.
“I ran for office to represent the forgotten voices of a border district,” she said.
“I am tired of seeing families flee Illinois to neighboring states for more favorable policies and better opportunity for the middle class,” Elik said. “Our state is in crisis. I will work to advance the needs and priorities of the district and will take those forgotten voices with me to Springfield every day.”

One of my key life-hacks is to cook extra of whatever I am having for dinner so I have the makings of a quick meal the following day. It takes no real effort to add another fish fillet or two to a sheet pan to roast, double a stew or soup recipe, or bake an additional couple of sweet potatoes, for example.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Census Bureau has apparently abandoned its effort to compile tallies of undocumented immigrants, effectively ending President Donald Trump s quest to exclude them from congressional apportionment, according to a letter posted on its website Wednesday afternoon.
The statement came a day after the Commerce Department s Office of Inspector General (OIG) sent a letter outlining reports from whistleblowers who said Trump appointees in the bureau have been making a last-ditch push to produce tallies of undocumented immigrants so the president could try to exclude them from congressional representation before he leaves office next week.
